Reason to believe
The company cites a clinical study (presented at an international obesity congress and submitted for publication) that demonstrated significant effects in reducing the abdominal and waistline circumference within 30-days. The results from this study were presented during the International Congress on Abdominal Obesity in January 2010.
They also conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled study test was conducted among 58 females, overweight subjects with BMI >25. They all had generally good health. No smokers or subjects on long-term medication. 30-days intervention.
Our take
While the claims sound convincing, the ingredients it has does have an effect on abdominal fat, but not as significant for people who are generally fat because of bad eating habit.
Beta-glucan is a soluble fiber found in oats and barley. It has always been known to boost immune cells to fight invading pathogens, inflammation markers, and bacteria. It also helps reduce cholesterol. As for using β-glucan for slimming seems to be a far stretch.
The botanical extracts, on the other hand, do help fight inflammation and infection that may distort cellular metabolism and contribute to the accumulation of abdominal fat.
However, the plant ingredients may have an effect on people with a fat belly, but those fats would have been as a result of liver dysfunction.
Liver and fat: A bad liver function can make you fat because it helps control carbohydrate metabolism by maintaining glucose levels in a normal range over both short and long times. The liver also plays a central role in the regulation of fat metabolism. Thus, the ingredients it has actually points to helping the kidney function better and process fat more effectively.
Therefore if you are fighting obesity, this product cannot just burn those fats away. It may take at least a year of lifestyle change and exercise, in order for you to lose that many extra pounds around your waist.
